Staircase 36b

In the western part of the southern walkway of the courtyard (36), there was a toilet (37L). This marble-covered toilet could be used by up to 5 people simultaneously. Later, a staircase (36b) leading to the upper floor was added to the entrance of the toilet.

While the lower steps of the staircase were completely preserved, only traces of the upper steps could be discerned in the plaster of the wall paintings.

The staircase was decorated with imitation marble and architectural paintings on the upper parts. Three aediculae (small shrines), along with ‘Candelabras’ (candle holders) illuminating two outer aediculae, could be seen against a white background. Green leaf wreaths were added to the candle holders, and in the center, a cup wrapped around with yellow was placed around the upper aedicula.
