Renovation and Strengthening Works at the Great Theater

The renovation focuses on the southern façade and the infrastructure chambers behind it, collectively known as the Southern analemma. These repairs aim to secure Marble Street, which passes in front of the theater, and to reopen the stairs (coded as S1) on the southern part of the western facade for visitor safety.

Symmetrically opposite to this staircase area, there is another staircase area coded as N1 at the North entrance. Repairs have also been carried out in this area to ensure visitor safety and wall integrity.

The relevant projects were approved by the Izmir II. Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board in 2009 and 2010, and work commenced accordingly.

In 2006, the protection, repair, and reuse project for the Ephesus Great Theater, which had been closed for events due to structural problems and misuse, was defined with two main objectives.

With the completion of necessary repairs, restoration, and preservation works, the theater has reopened for events without causing harm to its structure.
