Room SR 22/23 Mosaic
Mosaics are the most commonly used decorative surfaces on the floors of Terrace House 2, and they have been favored for generations due to their quality and durability.
In contrast, the decoration of the walls reflects more contemporary styles and trends.
The reasons for applying a mosaic floor, including its aesthetic appearance, are its durability, waterproof nature, and ease of cleaning.
As in the northern part of unit 2's peristyle (columned) hall SR 22/23, black-and-white mosaics with geometric designs are especially popular in Terrace House 2.
The mosaics in Terrace House 2 have been adversely affected by past seismic events.
The wavy surface, as well as the gaps and separations, demonstrate this.
The preservation procedures foresee the following applications:
Documentation of the mosaics
(photography, graphic documentation, 1:1 documentation, condition report, conservation plan)Cleaning of the mosaics
Reinforcement of corners and depressions with lime mortar
Application of plaster to separated and hollow areas
Repair of loosened mosaics
