Mosaics are the most common decorative surfaces used on the floors of Terrace House 2’s levels and have been cherished for generations due to their quality and durability.

In contrast, the decoration of the walls reflects more contemporary styles and trends.

The reasons for applying mosaic flooring, including its aesthetic appearance, durability, waterproofing, and easy cleaning.

Like in the northern part of the peristyle (columned) hall of Unit 2, where geometric designs with black and white mosaics are particularly popular in Terrace House 2.

The mosaics in Terrace House 2 have been adversely affected by seismic events in the past. The undulating surface as well as separations and voids indicate this.

Conservation procedures envisage the following applications:

• Documentation of mosaics
  (photographic, graphic documentation, 1:1 documentation, condition report, conservation plan)
• Cleaning of mosaics
• Strengthening corners and recesses with lime mortar
• Application of plaster to separate and recessed areas
• Repair of loose mosaics
