Cult Room SR 31b-c

To the north of the door, connected with the entrance area on the west side and opening almost entirely to the courtyard, there was a large room (31b-c) with an area of 25.5 m2. The room was decorated with wall paintings and floor mosaics: a small aedicula (niche), placed at the center of the north wall, was supported by columns and recessed legs. The entire wall on both the right and left was covered with a wooden cabinet designed to store scrolls, and there was a long bench for sitting on the west side of the room. A wide multi-paneled doored threshold, opening to the courtyard, was installed. Together with the adjoining library, which likely contained the family archives, this room was most probably used for cultic rituals.
